Notification/Building Regulations

Since April 2005, CORGI registered installers are required by law to notify CORGI when a new or exchanged gas appliance has been fitted. CORGI will then issue a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate which confirms that the work:-

  • Has been carried out by a CORGI Registered Installer
  • Was carried out in accordance with the relevant Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations
  • Is compliant with Section 4 and 7 of the Building Regulations in England and Wales
  • Has been carried out by a Self Certified Installer and that all work undertaken is compliant with the relevant Building Regulations

This applies to every gas appliance

You will need to keep any such certificates safely so that they may be produced when:

  • You move house or
  • To support an insurance claim.

Failure to comply with Building Regulations may result in prosecution or a fine of up to £5,000.

Competent Person Schemes

The Competent Person Schemes have been set up by the Government to raise standards of work and increase compliance to Building Regulations. These schemes allow individuals and businesses to self-certify when carrying out electrical, water and ventilation work. The alternative to these Competent Person Schemes is to individually notify all work to the Local Building Control Department of your local Council. This is costly and takes longer.

Invicta Gas is a member of the CORGI Competent Person Schemes:

  • Electrical Part ‘P’ – covers all work within the domestic dwelling
  • Plumbing Part ‘G’ – covers the plumbing of appliances – W.C., Bidet, Washbasin, Shower Tray, Bath – in a new or existing dwelling. It also covers the installation of unvented hot water storage systems.
  • Ventilation ‘Part’ F – covers the installation of Extractors, Cooker Hoods, Canopies, Heat Recovery Units and the installation of Fixed Air Conditioning.
